  • POSS plates

    • Here are plots showing the POSS1 and POSS2 plate layout and IRAS 12 micron source distribution (S>0.6Jy). The solid grid is the POSS1 grid based on 6 degree plate separataion. The dotted grid is the POSS2 grid based on a 5 degree plates separation. NB. The POSS1 grid is centred on declination strips with equinox 1855. The POSS2 grid is B1950. All plots are J2000. The plates are 6.2 x 6.2 degrees in extent. The APM scans cover 6.1 x 6.1 degrees. Therefore there is good overlap between the POSS2 plates but minimal overlap between the POSS1 plates. Note also that not all the POSS2 plates exist yet.
