A commercial aspect of PDS work is illustrated in Figs. 5 and 6. These show the results of electron diffraction in a gaseous compound whose crystalline structure differs from that in the solid phase. The rings indicate preferred angles of diffraction from the crystalline lattice of the compound and help investigators piece together the molecular structure of the material in the gaseous phase.
