Publicly available: 21cmGEM (21 cm Global EMulator)



21cmGEM code can be found here (Cohen, Fialkov, Barkana, Monsalve, 2019, submitted to MNRAS).
The corresponding dataset of ~30000 global signals is here (45 MB).

The code generates the global 21-cm signal from Cosmic Dawn and the Epoch of Reionization for an input set of 7 astrophysical parameters including the star formation efficiency, minimum mass of star forming halos, X-ray efficiency, slope and minimum energy of the X-rays spectral energy distribution, CMB optical depth, and ionizing efficiency of sources.

The code is written in MATLAB and requires version 2014b or later with enabled Deep Learning Toolbox.

Current position: Lecturer and a Royal Society University Research Fellow at the Institute of Astronomy.

Research interests:
From dark ages to the present days including astrophysics and cosmology with the 21-cm line of neutral hydrogen, intensity mapping of other molecular and atomic lines, structure formation, nature of dark matter, transient phenomena such as Fast Radio Bursts, low frequency radio observations and instrumentation.

Main collaborations:

Education:
I did my Ph.D. in physics at the Department of Particle Physics at Tel Aviv University working with Prof. Nissan Itzhaki and Prof. Rennan Barkana.
PhD. Thesis: "Observing the Unobservable: Catching a Glimpse of the Primordial Universe". I made my first steps in physics at The Technion, Israel Institute of Technology, where I got a B.Sc. in Physics and a B.A. in Electrical Engineering (specializing in Electro-optics and Digital Signal Processing) in 2006. As an undergraduated student I took part in the Emma and Oscar Getz Summer Science Program for Israeli Students at the Weizmann Institute of Science and participated in a heavy ion collision research under the supervision of Prof. Itzhak Tserruya. During my last year at the Technion I worked as a laboratory assistant in the Technion Atomic Physics Group with Prof. Jeff Steinhauer where I helped to set-up the system to cool Rubidium-87 atoms to nK temperature and create a Bose Einstein Condensate. My contribution included fine-tuning lasers, setting up laser cooling and designed and assembled a magneto-optical trap. This system was used to study acoustic black holes.
